Yuyi: The Emperor's Art Dream

SEPTEMBER 20, 2018 - NOVEMBER 28, 2018

Yuyi: The Emperor's Art Dream features a selection of 77 pieces of Qing Dynasty palace jade carvings collected by collectors and enthusiasts both domestically and abroad in recent years. It displayed Emperor Qianlong's love and pursuit of purity and beauty of jade. This exhibition lets the audience appreciate the cultural connotation and creative inspiration from the beauty of the Qianlong’s jade carvings.

Opened in September of 2017, the exhibition Exquisite Chinese Jades Throughout the Ages has been well received by local art lovers in Vancouver. The exhibition Yuyi: The Emperor's Art Dream is another significant exhibition of jade carvings exhibition series brought by Poly Culture Art Center. Jade has been endowed with profound religious, moral, aesthetic and political connotations in China. In the 6,000-year-old jade history, the Qianlong Emperor's tireless pursuit of excellence and cultural innovation made the jade carving from Qing Dynasty an insurmountable zenith. It can be said that among emperors of the past, the love of jade did not surpass that of Qianlong.

Seeking inspiration in ancient jade and recreating styles with innovation, Emperor Qianlong personally participated in the conceptual design of jade carving whenever there is excellent jade material. It was during this period that Emperor Qianlong made a revolutionary innovation in jade carving, integrating the traditional jade culture with his personal aesthetic taste. Major breakthroughs of design, craftsmanship and aesthetics have made the name of "Qianlong Jade Carvings" that captured the world’s attention.

At the time of the autumn season, Poly Culture Art Center presented the Qianlong jade carvings preserved from the Qing Dynasty to share the charm of royal jade. The jade carvings selected in this exhibition featuring not only the most delicate decorative works, but also practical life utensils, and small jade carvings that can be played with, aims to let the audience feel the beauty of Qianlong jade carvings from a close distance.
