In order to better explore the art and aesthetics of Chinese and Western jade culture, the sculpture master from British Columbia, Lyle Sopel, was invited to be one of the speakers at the event, and participate in the “Exquisite Chinese Jades Throughout the Ages” Exhibition.
After a welcome greeting from Poly Culture North America’s managers, the Councilman of Vancouver City Council gave the recognition and encouragement to the cultural exchange events between China and Canada. While watching the video of sculpture master’s creation process, Mr. Sopel described about his learning process and journey of gem craving, and introduced the creation concept behind his latest work “Eagles-‘Sky Chase’”.
Lianyong Chen, expert of jade carvings hired by Poly, gave a brief introduction of the development history of Chinese jade culture for thousands of years. Different from modern western jade craving works, the 67 old jade carvings exhibited in Poly Art Gallery are all hand-carved, which are skillfully created through water and emery.
