The Central Axis of Beijing in Qianlong period (the 1750s)

The 21st episode of Poly-online, “Grand and Splendid – The Central Axis of Beijing in Qianlong period (the 1750s)” will introduce a rare 18th-century handscroll, titled “Settling Down the Western Regions and Presenting Prisoners”. This handscroll begins at Beijing’s Zhengyang Gate and passes through Qipan Street to Tiananmen Square, with guards and flag-bearers’ lining the route from Duan Gate to Wu Gate. The throne is on the Wu Gate tower. Through this painting, we will travel back in time to see the central axis of Beijing in the 1750s, exploring this grand historical scene once again.
